A bit about me...

Well, I was born in London in 1958 and have 3 brothers, one twin, and 2 younger ones. After 52 years I found out that I have a sister in London, a sister in Wolverhampton, and 3 sisters somewhere in London who don't want to know. I come from a very hard and very colourful background, none of which I can share here. I had a hard man reputation, which followed me everywhere I went, and it has taken many years to change that reputation into something I can be proud of. People have been blown away at the transformation, and some said that it is an act and won't last... that was 20 years ago. I have worked as a manager in 3 jobs, been a taxi driver, security guard, homeless hostel deputy manager, market trader, teacher, a drummer in a Christian band for 5 years, and many more. I am a Christian, and the first half of my life didn't have much of God in it to be honest, but the second half although very challenging at times has been far more rewarding. Not financially you understand, "I started life with nothing and still have most of it left!".

I had learning difficulties at school, and being severely beaten by my "father" on a regular basis and going into 3 foster homes did nothing for my self worth or esteem. I used to be materialistic, and whatever I had was ok but there was always something "better", a newer version, with some "can't live without extras". For many years I have struggled with depression and loneliness, and to be honest I still suffer with both but I know God has a plan....and have just started to write a book about my life, the bad, the good and the sometimes hilarious.

Why am I telling you this, because it doesn't matter who you are, or what you have been through, you cannot let your past dictate your future!! The Bible says that it is better to give than to receive, and I used to think this was true as long as you are the one receiving! I have discovered that with Gods help I have changed my attitude towards people and life, and that to give away IS far more rewarding than to try to have it all, because it is a trap, it doesn't make you happy, ...I know. I also discovered that WHEN you start to give away your "treasures"... car, finances, home, safety net and encouragement, THEN you begin to receive.... that's the deal.

Some people ask me why I bother with Malawi, I tell them that it is an answer to prayer, God told me to go and reach these people, and although it is extremely hard at times due to lack of support, it has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done. In Malawi I don't do anything physical because of my limitations, but I oversee, I encourage, I show other people how to do things for themselves, and just to be there is amazing, to see things accomplished and to see communities blessed is amazing, to know that I am right where God wants me to be is.....amazing. With Gods help I cannot fail, I only fail if I don't go...

Be blessed.....

Roy.
